Youth Recreation Activity Worker Program
Hands-On Learning
The Youth Recreation Activity Worker program is a full-time, nine month Red River College Polytechnic certificate program for individuals wanting to make a difference in the lives of children and youth.
The program provides life and academic skills for individuals ages 18-29, who live in or around Winnipeg's inner city, and face barriers to obtaining their post-secondary education.
The Youth Recreation Activity Worker program trains young people through hands-on learning to deliver positive recreational opportunities to children and youth, and empowers them to draw from their own personal experiences in the process. Combined with the educational component from Red River College Polytechnic students gain the working knowledge to provide healthy development programs to youth and become role models in their own communities.
There is no tuition fee for the program, or any cost for books or supplies. The work/practicum experience during the program is 300 hours, and takes place in the evening. Those that are accepted into the program will also receive a participant incentive. Credits in this program are fully transferable to the second year of the Child and Youth Care Worker program at Red River College Polytechnic.
This program is a joint initiative of BGC Winnipeg and Red River College Polytechnic.
