Allow me to begin by giving you a glimpse into my journey and my deep connection with CSI. My name is Thea and for the past four years, I've had the privilege of serving as a CSI instructor at Shaughnessy Park School, a role that has profoundly shaped my perspective and purpose. Just yesterday, as I reunited with familiar faces and welcomed new ones during our first in-school observation day, the significance of June dawned upon me. This month lays the foundation for our summer endeavours—it's a time where instructors, like myself, forge connections, nurture relationships, and, perhaps most importantly, learn the names of each and every child. As an educator, I understand the value of these small yet significant gestures, for they pave the way for meaningful interactions and mutual respect.

Come July, our summer enrichment program will spring into action, eagerly anticipated by both the children and myself. What brings me immense joy is knowing that CSI extends its reach to inner-city communities, where its impact is felt most profoundly. Having worked within and beyond the program, I've witnessed firsthand the myriad challenges that our students and schools confront daily. Thus, my overarching goal, echoed by my fellow instructors and team leaders, remains clear: to ensure that every child is nourished, safe, and brimming with smiles. While seemingly simple,
these objectives address critical needs within our community, underscoring the multifaceted role of CSI beyond mere enrichment.

Amidst these challenges, however, lie countless success stories waiting to be told. This year, our theme of "community care" embodies our commitment to fostering a culture of empathy, support, and involvement. Within the realms of CSI, learning takes on a whole new dimension—one that seamlessly integrates STEAM activities with the children's interests and passions. Whether it's building things such as solar balloons or solving real-world problems, our approach transcends
traditional notions of education, making learning a joyous and immersive experience.

The importance of our summer enrichment goes far beyond just personal growth. These programs play a crucial role in bridging the gap between academic years, ensuring that students remain engaged and motivated to learn even outside the confines of the classroom. They help to prevent the dreaded "summer slide" and ensure that students return to school in the fall ready to hit the ground running. It's this spirit of empowerment and engagement that draws me back to CSI year after year. Yesterday, as I saw the radiant faces of our students during our in-school session, I couldn't help but marvel at how much they've grown, literally. I was ambushed yesterday and today by students asking me, “Did I get into CSI? When does CSI start?”

In closing, I'd like to leave you with a timeless quote from Benjamin Franklin, a sentiment that encapsulates the essence of our work at CSI: "Tell me, I forget. Teach me, I remember. Involve me, and I learn." CSI is a roller coaster, but I wouldn’t choose to be on any other rides.
