Power Up!
Become a Lifelong Learner
Power Up! is a cross-age mentoring program designed to help children and youth develop the skills, confidence and motivation needed to study effectively on their own and become lifelong learners.
Power Up! is based on a key tenet that all students can learn and actively contribute to their own education as well as the education of others. Through the cross-age mentoring process, Power Up! encourages high school students to take academic responsibility for younger children who have been identified as needing additional supports in school.
Nine part-time project facilitators are hired to work in nine neighbourhood clubs/schools and are responsible for recruiting students, organizing academic sessions with children and supervising both volunteers and teen mentors. Working two days a week, they are typically education students who aspire to become teachers.
