If you love great food and supporting a good cause, put September 27 on your calendar. BGC Winnipeg’s 100 Mile Dinner is back at the RBC Convention Centre, and WOW! Catering executive chef and partner Luc Jean calls it “the best dinner of the year.”

The idea is pretty cool. Use as many ingredients as possible grown, raised or produced within 100 miles of the city and then turn them into something spectacular. And this isn’t your typical gala dinner with one chef running the show.

The all-star lineup includes Fraser Macleod of 529 Wellington, Doug Stephen Jr. of Vancouver’s Downlow Chicken Shack, Edward Lam of Peacock, Chris Gama of Clementine, Richard Duncan of WOW! Hospitality and former Winnipegger David Jackman of Cincinnati’s Wildweed, a James Beard Award finalist.

Each chef takes a course, and Jean says there’s a little friendly competition to see who can outdo the others. Past dinners have featured everything from bison cannelloni with wild chanterelles and duck confit to pickerel and wild haskap bread pudding. Best of all, the money raised supports BGC Winnipeg and its programs for kids, including before-and-after-school programming and leadership training.

Jean’s advice? “Come hungry, come curious and ready to taste Manitoba.”

Tickets are available at bgcwinnipeg.ca. And don’t wait. This one sells out.
