On Friday, May 16, 2025, BGC Winnipeg and RRC Polytech will proudly celebrate the graduation of 13 inner-city youth from the Youth Recreation Activity Worker Program – a momentous occasion recognizing their dedication to creating positive change in their lives and within their communities.
The Youth Recreation Activity Worker Program is a collaborative initiative between BGC Winnipeg and RRC Polytech, designed to support young adults facing barriers to post-secondary education. Over the course of the full-time nine-month program, students receive hands-on training and develop the knowledge and skills needed to become leaders in the recreation field, promoting healthy development for children and youth.
Graduates leave the program not only as qualified youth recreation workers, but also as role models and community builders. Additionally, the program provides participants with the opportunity to apply credits toward RRC Polytech’s Child and Youth Care Worker Diploma Program, offering a clear pathway to further education and career advancement.
The graduation ceremony will include personal speeches from each graduate, sharing heartfelt reflections on their journey and the impact of the program. Each student will be awarded a Certificate of Completion in front of their families, mentors, and supporters.
This milestone event is a testament to the resilience, commitment, and potential of young people who are determined to make a difference.
Since its inception over 20 years ago, the program has proudly supported the graduation of over 100 students. Nearly all of these graduates are now either employed or pursuing further education – an incredible testament to the program’s impact. This success is made possible through the generous support of the Province of Manitoba, NETES, and the City of Winnipeg’s Aboriginal Youth Strategy, Oshki Annishinabe Nigaaniwak.
